Tottenham midfielder Son Heung-min has been included in South Korea’s 26-man squad for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

The 30-year-old declared himself fit to feature after suffering a fractured eye socket playing for Spurs earlier this month.

Paulo Bento’s South Korea will be making their 10th consecutive World Cup appearance.

Son, who underwent surgery to fix the injury, has stated that he will play in Qatar wearing a protective mask if necessary.

According to Bento, Son’s replacement, Lee Kang-in of Mallorca, was not chosen to serve as backup in case the Premier League’s co-leading scorer from the previous season was unable to participate.

Having been ousted by Uruguay in the Round of 16 in 2010, South Korea will enter the World Cup hoping to advance to the knockout stages for the first time since then.

On November 24, the Koreans take on Uruguay to begin their Group H campaign. They next play Ghana on November 28 and Portugal on December 2.
