Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott ruled out misses world cup 2022

Ghana goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott has been ruled out of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup, with just a week to the start of the tournament.

The Charlton Athletic number one will miss the tournament through a finger injury he sustained on Saturday in the pre-game warm-up against Burton Albion.

It will be a big blow to the goalkeeper and Ghana. He was set to make his first appearance at the Mundial.

The 26-year-old was instrumental for Ghana throughout the qualifying series after making his debut in October 2021.

Ghana’s 26-man final squad will be announced on Monday, November 14, with the team set to open camp in Dubai the same day.

After Charlton’s game on Saturday, the manager of the club, Ben Garner said Wollacott would be scanned when they get back to their base.

“He’s just caught at the end of his finger in the warm-up, so he’s gonna get scanned as soon as we get back down to London.

“Obviously, we’re hoping and praying this is nothing because he’s due to fly out to the world cup tomorrow, so if he’s scanned as soon as we get back and then fingers crossed there.”

The club has since not provided any update on the scan, but the player’s entourage has confirmed he will be missing out on the global showpiece.
