Relentless activist and lead convener of civic movement, FixTheCountry, Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor has claimed that judges caught in 2015 in an undercover investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas are currently practicing lawyers after being relieved of their position as judges in the aftermath of the explosive exposé.

Barker-Vormawor, a known critic of how the legal profession is being administered by the General Legal Council (GLC), also added that some referees exposed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas in another investigative piece for taking bribes to officiate with partiality are currently back to practice as referees.

“All the judges who were sacked for demanding goats for bribe in the Anas video, are currently all practicing as lawyers.

All the referees dismissed from the Anas video for bribes have been reinstated,”he revealed.

Barker-Vormawor’s revelations come at a time the Ghana Legal Council (GLC) has stirred controversy by denying a law student, Elorm Ababio, a call to the bar on the grounds of lack of “good character”.

It also comes at a time Anas Aremeyaw Anas is set to release another investigative piece on illegal mining in Ghana. The piece will be premiered on November 14, 2022.

In 2015, some judges were captured on video demanding and taking bribes in the form cash and in gifts such as goats and yam to pass judgement in favour of those from whom they took the bribes. The piece led to a shakeup in the Bench with several of them getting dismissed.
