After losing 2-0 to Ecuador on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium, Qatar made history as the only host nation to lose their first game of a World Cup.

Enner Valencia’s goal under three minutes into the game highlighted the Maroons’ inexperience and lack of talent as they competed in their maiden World Cup. A goal that was ultimately disallowed due to offside.

After being fouled by goalie Saad Al Sheeb, Ecuador’s captain Valencia won a penalty and converted it superbly to score the game’s first goal 13 minutes later.

After 31 minutes, the South Americans doubled their advantage. Valencia once again

In the 31st minute, a perfect lofted cross into the box by Angelo Preciado led to the second goal, which was headed in by the Fenerbahçe striker.

Ecuador won 2-0 in the opening period.

With Qatar also enjoying some strong stretches in the game during the second half, Ecuador appeared to have eased their foot off the throttle a little.

With three points, Ecuador is now in first place in Group A ahead of tomorrow’s match between Senegal and the Netherlands.
