Qatar 2022: Kudus double against South Korea inspires Ghana’s knockout hopes

Ghana picked a hard-fought 3-2 win against South Korea on Monday afternoon at Al Rayyan Stadium to revive knock qualification hopes at the 2022 World Cup.

A double from Mohammed Kudus and another from Mohammed Salisu was what the Black Stars needed to run out victors.

Ghana is now second in Group H with three points from two games. Uruguay and Portugal will play the next group game later in the day.

South Korea threatened and controlled the game for the first 20 minutes, but made nothing of it.

Ghana broke the deadlock through Mohammed Salisu, who slotted in from close range following a fantastic Jordan Ayew set-piece 24 minutes into the game.

Ten minutes later, Ghana completely turned the game around with a second goal. Mohammed Kudus glanced in another perfect Jordan cross.

Ghana went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

South Korea came into the second half with renewed energy and it paid off.

Three minutes of defensive madness saw South Korea cancel out both goals through Gue-Sung Cho. The Jeonbuk forward headed in two headers, both from Ghana’s right side of defence.

Kudus dragged the Black Stars into the lead eight minutes after the hour mark with a brilliant placement ball at the left post.

South Korea piled pressure late on for an equalizer but Ghana’s dogged display at the back deny them any comeback.

Otto Addo’s men will look to round up qualification when they taken on Uruguay on December in their final Group H game.
