Ashanti Regional NSS boss has been fired

Published

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has bowed to pressure by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association(GRNMA) to relieve the Ashanti Regional Director of the scheme for his insulting behavior.

The GRNMA had given a 72-ultimatum to the NSS to take action on the insulting behavior of the NSS boss or they would lay down their tools in support of an abused colleague.

Mr. Alex Opoku-Mensah was heard on a viral 9 minutes audio hurling abusive and derogatory words on a nurse over his daughter, a doctor on her housemanship at the Manhyia hospital.

The GRNMA earlier in a statement described the actions of the NSS Boss as unfortunate.

The statement also said nurses in the facility will embark on a strike action if the government does not sack Mr. Opoku Mensah from his position.

They also indicated they will extend the action nationwide to impress on the government to act giving that 72-hour ultimatum but the government is yet to yield to their demand.

However, the national headquarters of the NSS has taken up the matter calling for cool heads while it investigates the matter.

Mr. Opoku himself has since apologized but that apology has been rejected by the GRNMA saying it is unsatisfactory.

Both the nurse and the Dr at the center of this saga MyNewsGh.com can confirm have both been given a week off as part of internal mechanisms by the hospital to bring some truce to the matter.

Also, both individuals have apologized to each other, our sources in the hospital tell us, with Mr. Opoku Mensah apologizing to the nurse for his demeaning words
