Otto Addo’s squad announcement for the tournament was greeted with a lot of criticism because he left out a number of top-performing players, including Joseph Paintsil and Majeed Ashimeru.

The player selection during the tournament raised the same allegations of influence in player selection from the Ghana Football Association and its president Kurt Okraku.

The Black Stars exited the World Cup at the group phase after a victory over South Korea in between defeats to Portugal and Uruguay
