Meet The First African Professor To Have Taught At The University Of Ghana

The man in question happens to be Ghana’s prime minister from 1969 to 1972 and he goes by the name Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia.

Dr. Busia is credited with his effort to restore civilian government to Ghana following military rule.

The widely recognized Ghanaian prime minister and academic scholar received his basic education at the Methodist School in Wenchi and continued his secondary education at Mfantsipim School after which he furthered to the Achimota School.

After grabbing numerous academic certificates abroad, he came back to Ghana and was appointed the first lecturer in African studies and eventually emerged as the first lecturer to occupy a chair at the University College of the Gold Coast, a tertiary institution which is currently known as the University of Ghana, Legon.
