Wakaso gives updates on Christian Atsu and sends message to Ghanaians

Ghanaian footballer Mubarak Wakaso has urged Ghanaians to respect the privacy of Christian Atsu while the midfielder’s whereabouts remains unknown.

Media reports from Turkey named the Ghanaian midfielder as one of the persons trapped under the rubble following the earthquake that occurred in the country, Monday, 6 February 2023.

The midfielder who plays for Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor, was reported to be among thousands of people left under the rubble after two players of the club were pulled out after the disaster.

According to reports, he was found alive on Tuesday, 7 February 2023, and taken to the hospital for treatment.

But in a twist, it has been reported that Atsu has not been found contrary to earlier reports.

In a Tweet on Wednesday, 8 February 2023, Wakaso said: “Following yesterday’s update from the club that, Christian has been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.”

He noted that:  As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing all we can to locate Christian.”

He added: “Please respect family’s privacy during this harrowing time, and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated news as this will only hamper the search efforts for Christian.”
