The former Director General of the Ghana Institute of Management And Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adjei has stated that transformational strategy aimed at improving the poor performance of public basic schools in Ghana is to sack all of its teaching staff.

According to him, lack of supervision in public schools have gradually resulted in the inability of highly qualified teachers to pull their weight to ensure their students perform excellently in their various subjects.

Per his sentiments, no matter the amount of money government pumps into public basic education to ensure its improvement, if the management and accountably structure doesn’t experience any amendment, then the every amount spent will go down the drain.

He reiterated that, during his time a teacher had to serve first before he or she starts teaching but the situation is quite different now because almost all the teachers teaching in the public basic schools are graduates.

In line with this factual disclosure made, he stated clearly that the main ingredient to improving education in public schools is by ensuring strict supervision.
