University of Cape Coast Mathematics Lecturer Receives $30,000 Research Grant From Google [Read Full Article For Reason]

Information gathered by ghlatest.net indicates a lecturer at the Department of Mathematics who lectures at the University of Cape Coast has received a research grant from Google worth $30,000.

This research grant given to the Mathematics lecturer was dashed out purposely to help him continue with a research in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The said award was given to Dr. Stephen Moore, an academic adept who doubles as the co-founder of Ghana Natural Language Processing with the purpose of accelerating research in Natural Language Processing in low resource languages in Ghana and the African continent at large.

Natural Language Processing is simply a branch of Artificial Intelligence centered on how best computers can easily process languages just like humans do.

For more than three years now, Dr. Moore and his comrades at the NLP Ghana have developing requisite tools both speech and text translation of low resource languages, some of which includes local Ghanaian dialects like Twi, Dagbani, Ga, Igbo, Guruni and Ewe.
