Michael Essien has successfully completed his UEFA coaching courses

The former Ghana and Chelsea star works as assistant manager at FC Nordsjaelland.

Former Ghana and Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien’s journey to becoming a coach took a huge step after acquiring his license.

The 40-year-old secured his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A coaching license from the Welsh Football Association.

Essien who works as assistant manager at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, shared his excitement after completing the courses.

“Step by step, I am learning and growing as a coach. Happy to have completed my UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A license. Thanks to the family, Wales FA, my tutors, my mentor and RTD/FCN for the support. And big thank you to Tom Vernon and Flemming Pedersen, FC Nordsjaelland,” he wrote on Twitter.

Essien started taking baby steps in coaching right after ending his football career in 2020. The former Ghana international enjoyed a stellar career, where he won several titles with English giants Chelsea FC. Essien won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. Before arriving at Chelsea, he had won two Ligue 1 titles with French side Olympique Lyonnais.
