How I Heard About My Son’s Death – Mother Of Slain Soldier Recounts



Mother of Trooper Sheriff Imoro, the soldier who was slained at Ashaiman a few days ago has finally come out to explain how the news about her son’s tragic death was broken to her.

In a recent interview monitored by, she narrated that it all started when a colleague of his son came to their house to ask whether he had returned in light of the fact that, he heard he had left 37 where he was pursuing a course after seeking for permission to go and see his mother.

According to Sheriff’s mother, the friend in question revealed to her that her son was in millitary trousers when he left 37 with a normal shirt on while he carried some of his belongings in a millitary bag.

Narrating further, Imoro’s mother stated that his son doesn’t go anywhere else except his place despite the fact that they have relatives in Accra including his grandmother.

She further narrated that after failing to reach him on phone on several occasions, she felt uneasy about the situation and it was after this unusual feeling that he got a call from Burma Camp with the caller asking for her location.

However, she opted to come to Burma Camp herself of which the caller rejected with indications they were coming to her place.

Having no idea what the problem could be, she continued with her washing till one of his uncles came to the house to inform her of what was going on while requesting to have a discussion with her.

She said just then, one of his uncles came from another corner and slumped after mentioning the name of her son and that was when she knew everything wasn’t okay.

According to the mother of the slain soldier, she asked if Sheriff was dead looking at the intensity of the slump.

After a few minutes, Madam Akyaa, the mother of the slain soldier said she saw people trooping in and looking on their phones so she snatched one of their phones and saw a picture of her son in millitary uniform with a corpse beside him.

She reiterated that, the moment she saw the corpse, she knew it was his son so he shouted that her son died.

Madam Akyaa further stated that she called the millitary hierarchy to inform about what she heard but they debunked and told they were coming to see her and as though they weren’t in her house to confirm, she was already in tears before they came to broke the news to her finally.
