The Rent Control Department has advised the public not to rent a room that will cost them more than Ghc300 if their monthly salary is way below Ghc1,000.

Rent in Ghana is one of the major challenges a lot of people in the country and this is due to the way and manner in which landlords take advantage of tenants by charging exorbitant fees to suit their demands.

Upon the huge amounts taken by landlords, they still go ahead to demand two years advance from them and charge as high as Ghc570 on a monthly basis for a single room self-contain accommodation.

However, per the laws set by the Rent Control Department of Ghana, it is an offense to take six months rent advance from a tenant.

Tenants, most especially those in the urban areas are compelled to cough out huge sums of money just to have a roof over their heads.

It is line with this canker that the Head of Public Relations at Rent Control Ghana, Emmanuel Horvey Kporstu has urged tenants to cut their coat according to their measurements.

He explained that tenants who do not Ghc1,000 as basic pay shouldn’t rent a house that has a rent amount higher than a Ghc300 monthly payment.
