C/R: NDC Chairman shot dead by suspected robbers

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman for Kadadwen electoral area in Dunkwa-on-Offin, Emmanuel Acquah, has been shot dead by unknown armed men.

According to Spark FM, a local radio station in the municipality, Acquah was returning home from a mining site with gold when he was accosted and killed.

The NDC activist was driving from Twapiase in the Akrofuom District of the Ashanti region in the company of two Chinese miners in the early hours of Thursday, May 4, 2023.

According to Police he had gold and an undisclosed cash in the car which he was driving.

A brother of the deceased, Emmanuel Atta Mensah, who confirmed the death,  said that his younger brother had called him in the morning about the incident involving Acquah.

He explained that when they rushed to the  time scene, their brother was lying in a pool of blood.

His mortal remains has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Chinese miners who were in the vehicle with the deceased and had sustained various degrees of injuries have been sent to the same health facility for treatment.

Police have launched investigations into the matter and pursuing the suspected robbers.

Emmanuel Acquah, 36, was a teacher with three children.

Robbing miners and gold dealers off their money and gold is rife in the Central, Ashanti and Western Regions due to the influx of illegal mining activities.

Robbers usually target the miners at night or dawn and attack them.
