Chris Houghton Explains Absence Of Local Players In Black Stars Squad

Black Stars coach, Chris Houghton has explained why he is yet to call up a local player to the senior national team since he took over from Otto Addo months ago.

Ever since the former Everton manager took over the management position of Ghana’s Black Stars, he has made two squads and both selections haven’t included any local player from the Ghana Premier League.

In line with Houghton’s recent decision to monitor player’s from the Ghana Premier League, fans were hoping he would name at least one player from the local league in his 24-man squad but the story appears different.

The Black Stars manager named a strong squad without any local league player.

Providing reasons why he didn’t select any local player, Houghton emphasized on the importance of maintaining a balance within the squad, combining consistency with an openness to new players, including local talents.

Additionally, Houghton acknowledged his willingness to infuse local players but highlighted the current focus on the upcoming AfCON qualifiers between Ghana and Madagascar.
