FIFA Puts Super Eagles In Pot 1 As Race To 2026 World Cup Begins



Information gathered by indicates FIFA has released the pots for the African draws prior to the qualification series for the oncoming 2026 World Cup tournament, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Nigeria has been drawn in Pot 1 alongside toop-class African teams like Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria, Mali and Egypt.

The actual World Cup qualification group draw will be conducted on July 12, 2023.

The top four best performing African teams that finish in second place will be made to compete in a mini-tournament and the winner of this short football competition will qualify for an intercontinental play-off.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were absent at the last World Cup in Qatar, after they lost out to the Black Stars of Ghana in the playoffs on a 1-1 away goal disadvantage.
