U-23 AFCON: It’s Unfair To Single Out Afriyie Barnieh For Criticism – Yusif Chibsah

Yusif Chibsah, a former Ghanaian international, has expressed his utmost support for former Hearts of Oak attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, amidst a dip in form during the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morroco.

Barnieh, who currently plays for Swiss club FC Zurich, has faced numerous backlashes for his unimpressive performances, including being substituted in the opening group game against Congo and being dropped for the second game against Morocco.

In line with the crucial final Group A match results against Guinea, Chibsah believes it is unfair to single out underperforming players in the head Coach’s team at such a critical stage of the youthful team.

Chibsah explained further that certain external factors, unrelated to football, can also Influence a player’s form.

He reiterated that Afriyie Barnieh recently joined FC Zurich and needs some time in order to adapt to the team’s style of play and familiarize with a new country and environment.

He also laid emphasis on the relevance of collective responsibility and not singling out individual players during challenging situations like this.
