Black Meteors Technical Team Dissolved Over Abysmal Performance At 2023 AfCON – GFA Official Confirms



The U-23 national team of Ghana popularly recognized as the Black Meteors of Ghana were eliminated from the U-23 African Cup of Nations, a continental tournament which serves as qualification to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Ghanaian junior team was unable to make it out of the group stages and possibly pick one of the three slots available for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Following the team’s unfortunate elimination from the U23 AFCON tournament, Fredrick Acheampong revealed that the Black Meteors team has been dissolved.
According to GFA representative, it will take the GFA Executive Committee to take a decision on whether the technical teams would be called back or dissolved.
He reiterated that, the team was formed mainly because of the upcoming Olympic Games adding that though he is not in the position to say that he will continue or not, he can say for a fact that, it will take the decision of the GFA executive council for coach Ibrahim to continue managing the junior team.
He went on to state that the U-23 team has been dissolved because the twam was brought together for the Olympic Games and since they failed to qualify, it’s necessary they dissolve it.
Ghana has not qualified for the Olympic Games football tournament since 2004 and the dream of making it to next year’s competition has been dashed following the U-23 team’s failure to make it to the semi-final of the 2023 AfCON tournament, a criteria for qualification to the Olympics after which the top three best performing teams of the continental tournament will selected for the major showdown.
