Why I Switched From Rap To Afrobeats – Victony Explains

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Anthony Ebuka Victor popularly known as Victony, has talked about why he decided to switch his music genre from hip-hop to afrobeats,

According to Victony, he decided to make the switch from hip-hop to Afrobeats because he wanted to “try something new.”

The 22-year-old superstar musician said the pandemic quarantine gave him the chance to discover himself.

He reiterated that, the aura and feeling during the pandemic’s lockdown was very different, and that prompted him to want to try something new.

Irrespective of this factuality, one has to do it and still make sense as an artist. He stated that as a musician, you still have to be metaphoric and creative with the writing as far as the Afrobeats genre is concerned.

Victony said music aided him to heal faster when he was in a wheelchair for about a year after he was involved in a fatal car accident that claimed the life of one of his friends.

Narrating further, he said the positive reception his collaboration with Mayorkun, ‘Holy Father’, got while he was still in a wheelchair, encouraged him to finish up his project and follow up the success.

He, however, said the guilt over not being able to remember how the accident happened still haunts him, adding that “I just feel like maybe things would have been different if I was awake.”
