Iconic Ghanaian sound engineer, David Kojo Kyei, known in the entertainment industry as Kaywa, has revealed that he wrote the lyrics to the song “Aseda” sang by multiple award-winning Gospel artiste, Ohemaa Mercy.
In a recent interview with Caleb Nii Boye on Accra-based 3FM, Kaywa said that after reality dawned on him that Afrobeats was completely missing in the Gospel terrain, he was focused on bringing it there, adding that it began with Diana Hamilton’s soul lifting song, ‘Work In Progress’.
Kaywa further revealed that he is the brains behind the massive Gospel hit song, ‘Aseda’, indicating that he personally wrote the lyrics and every other thing for Ohemaa Mercy to sing.
Adding to this, he mentioned that ‘Mo Ne Yo’ is the third Afrobeats Gospel tune produced in Ghana.
He revealed that he fuse Afrobeats into Gospel music, first with Ohemaa Mercy’s ‘Aseda’ tune but with that, he went all out because he wrote the song himself, put it together before asking her to come and sing.
“Then ‘Mo Ne Yo’ came and this time, I was like, let’s go all out so it’s the third afrobeats Gospel song ever to be produced in Ghana” he revealed.
Taking listeners on the history of afrobeats Gospel songs produced in Ghana, the CEO of Highly Spiritual Music Label listed the first three songs in that space.
He revealed that the first was ‘Work in progress’, the second was ‘Aseda’ and then ‘Mo Ne Yo’ followed in that order.
