According to a former Black Stars player who was part of the senior national team that helped Ghana to win the AfCON title in 1978 and 1982 respectively, his teammates unintentionally said detrimental words to prevent the team from winning the continental trophy and he thinks it’s working.

In a recent interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the former Black Stars and Accra Great Olympics attacker named George Alhassan said they were promised houses by the then President, provided they were able to win the AfCON trophy.

However, after the deed was done, they didn’t hear from the government again. He reiterated that, out of pain, some of the players from the winning team said “we will see how Ghana will win the AfCON trophy again.

Per his narration, they said that out of pain and he thinks that ‘curse’ laid on the Black Stars team is what has prevented the team from winning the continental trophy till date.

Explaining further, he said his teammates painfully said these words based on the regrets they had, after their opponents for the final AfCON match, which was Libya, offered to give them huge sums of money so they could beat them for the trophy, of which they refused with hopes of winning it to be compensated with the houses they were promised by the Ghanaian President at that time.
