Veteran Highlife singer and music producer, Pat Thomas, is calling for increased efforts from stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry to safeguard the legacy of the country’s highlife music genre for upcoming generations.

While the indigenous genre has survived generations and numerous trends and has been able to maintain its exceptional identity, according to the legendary musician, it also faces a potential distinction in the face of a wide range of contemporary influences, such as the emergence of modern genres that seem to be stealing the attention of Highlife musicians.

According to him, Highlife has these distinct defining elements like the use of percussions, including xylophone, maracas, bass drum, and these make the genre so unique in nature.

In relation to this disclosure, he appealed to the new crop of Highlife musicians to uphold these elements to keep the genre alive so that generations yet unborn, get to appreciate the beauty of the genre still in its truest form.
