Memphis Depay Pays Homage To Ghana’s Ashanti King With Celebration Against Granada

Atletico Madrid football star, Memphis Depay, has revealed that his recent dance celebration in the Spanish La Liga opening match against Granada, was in reverenc of the Paramount Chief of Ashantis in Ghana, Nana Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
The Dutch attacker scored an amazing long range goal as the Rojiblancos silenced Granada with a 3-1 scoreline at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium on Monday night.

The dance known as “Kete” is a popular Ghanaian cultural dance performed by the Ashantis in Ghana. It is usually performed at special gathering of the King of Ashanti.
According to Memphis Depay, he dedicated his goal and it’s celebration to the Ashanti King, Nana Otumfuo Ose iTutu II, in honour of what he represents to Ghana, where his father comes from.
“The dance is from the Ashanti Kingdom in Ghana and it’s paying respect to our king,” the player told La Liga TV
“He has a dance as well where ‘he takes, as I give’ and he takes and the kingdom is his. I have the privilege to know the king and that was a celebration for him and obviously celebrating with the team and the fans is a great feeling” he added.
Depay is expected to lead Atletico Madrid as they travel to Real Betis in their second game of the football season.
