“Music Is Not A Competition” – Medikal Lashes Out At Fellow Musicians

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Medikal has shared his view on the pressure being put on some specific groups and individuals within the Ghanaian music industry to produce hit songs.

Addressing fellow musicians and industry stakeholders concerning what he terms as the industry’s mounting pressure, the AMG frontliner stated that this relentless drive has resulted in a concerning fixation on the attainment of commercial success at any cost.

Sharing his opinion with his followers on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Medikal stated that Ghana music is suddenly losing its authenticity and exceptionality due to the massive pressure mounted by certain factions.

“The essence of enjoyment and amusement is progressively shifting from mere entertainment to a predefined target. Note well: Music is not a competition” he stated.

According to the “Omo Ada” hitmaker, the essential “sauce” that has been a driving force of Ghanaian music is eventually becoming diluted under the weight of mounting expectations.

Medikal’s sentiments comes on the back of the ongoing criticisms that have surrounded the industry, most especially in the wake of the recent triumphs achieved by Nigerian stars such as Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Asake, all of whom have managed to host groundbreaking concerts on international stages – a feat Ghanaian musicians are finding difficult to achieve.
