Selena Gomez Celebrates VMA Win And Billion Streams For Rema’s Calm Down

Unarguably, Selena Gomez and Rema’s song, ‘Calm Down’, is doing the most.

Last night, the top trending remix of Rema’s Calm Down which had Selena Gomez featured on, won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats, a newly created category.

Rema and Selena Gomez’s collaborative tune beat Wizkid’s ‘2 Sugar’, Burna Boy’s ‘It’s Plenty’, Fireboy and Asake’s ‘Bandana’, Davido’s ‘Unavailable’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’, and Libianca’s ‘People’ to win the award for the night.

Rema, a notable Nigerian singer and rapper, and Selena Gomez went on stage to receive the award, thanking their fans for the massive support they’ve been offering them over the past few months.

“I wanna give big thanks to my fans. I wanna give big thanks to my team. Big shoutout to Selena [Gomez]. I wanna say I love you from the bottom of my heart. This [award] means so much; seeing afrobeats grow and being on this stage representing afrobeats tonight. I’m so happy. But one thing I will not forget to do this night, is to shout out the people who opened the door for me. Big shoutout to Fela who started afrobeats, 2Baba, Don Jazzy, D’banj, D’Prince, Runtown, Timaya, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido for opening the door for us new generation of Afrobeats,” Rema said in his acceptance speech accompanied by Selena Gomez.

The ‘Lose You to Love Me’ hitmaker also took to his official Instagram page to celebrate the win, thanking their fans for voting for them to win the VMA.

Over the weekend, Spotify announced that the massive hit song has reached the billion stream mark on the music streaming platform.

Selena Gomez shared their Twitter post and revealed how excited she was for the achievement attained.

“I’m so grateful. Love you @heisrema!” Selena Gomez stated.
