Wizkid And I Invented Afrobeats – Samklef

Famous Nigerian singer and record producer, Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has claimed that he and Grammy award-winning star, Ayodeji Balogun, widely recognized as Wizkid introduced Afrobeats to the Nigerian music industry.

Samklef made this disclosure via his official X page while revealing that Nigerian contemporary music had no genre and specific title until he and Wizkid named it Afrobeats in 2010.

Providing a further narration on the process of how Afrobeats was invented, Samklef stated that Nigerian music legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti created Afrobeats but Wizkid’s claim to fame and his emergence as a producer in the last decade made it a recognized genre.

According to the Nigerian-based music producer, he also contributed as a music producer, signalling a new dawn for the contemporary Nigerian music industry and as such, he and Wizkid both deserve the credit for the ‘magic’ and name Afrobeats.

Narrating the story behind their invention, Samklef accompanied his tweet with a throwback video of himself and Wizkid.
