We’ll Improve This Black Stars Team – Chris Houghton Assures Ghanaian Football Fans

The Head coach of the Black Stars coach Chris Houghton has come out to speak on the difficulty of building national team chemistry given the limited time frame coaches have.

In his post-match comments after helping Ghana to a 3-1 win over Liberia in an international friendly played at the Accra Sports Stadium two days ago, Chris Hughton said being a national team coach presents distinct challenges.

”Its a difficult situation. Unlike my past life where I coached at club level, national teams have very limited time to train. From the day players arrive, you have two full training sessions, three at most, before the match.” the Ghanaian coach said.

”Of course it is not peculiar to Ghana. All national team coaches work under the same conditions but it is more difficult to build cohesiveness, structure and even improve team culture if you have to” he added.

Chris Houghton remains unbeaten in five matches after being appointed as Black Stars coach, having won three matches and drawn against two teams.

However, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager who led Ghana to qualify for a 10th consecutive AFCON tournament, is bent on improving on that record.

”We know we are capable of being better. Playing with more intensity, increasing the solutions we can find in game situations, and of course playing the kind of football our fans want to see. And we are committed to that. My technical team and I are preoccupied with improving everything that can be improved. It is a privilege to coach this team and we try to let that show in the quality of work we do.” he stated

Chris Houghton’s next assignments will be in October when the Black Stars play against the United States of America and Mexico in two friendlies in the U.S as they prepare for the 2024 AfCON tournament and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers respectively.
