Goalkeepers Have Contributed Positively To Ghana’s Recent Match Results – Chris Houghton

Black Stars coach Chris Houghton has commended the performance of goalkeepers since he took charge of the Ghanaian team, stating that it has been highly beneficial to the team’s success thus far.
Houghton, who was appointed as head coach of the Black Stars early this year, has worked with Lawrence Ati Zigi, Manaf Nurudeen, Joseph Wollacot and Richard Ofori among others, with support from former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingston, who now serves on the technical bench playing his role as goalkeepers’ coach.
The former Norwich City coach has managed to achieve three victories and two draws in his first five games since taking over from Otto Addo in March.
According to him, he thinks goalkeepers’ contributions have been a key to the successful results of the team so far.
“One area, if one of the concerns is we haven’t scored enough goals, certainly one of the pluses is we have not conceded,” he said after Ghana’s 3-1 victory over Liberia in Tuesday’s international friendly.
“If we haven’t conceded too many then, that is a big part of what the goalkeeper does. So we work with the quality of keepers that we have and we are very happy to work with them, and they are very much part of any win that we have and any result that we have” he added.
The Black Stars of Ghana booked their place in the 2023 AFCON and are expected to intensify preparations for the upcoming tournament which is scheduled to be played in Ivory Coast next year.
