Ghanaian winger, Joseph Paintsil has finally opened up on his links with a possible move to Southampton in the summer transfer window.
The Ghanaian attacker is one of the many Ghanaian players who made the news on several occasions before the transfer window closed.
Among the clubs that were associated with him, Joseph Paintsil was wanted by highly acknowledged English Championship football club Southampton.
Although the Saints contacted KRC Genk, the Black Stars striker decided to stay in Belgium.
Speaking in a recent interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, Joseph Paintsil said his mum advised him to join the Southampton football club.
However, he revealed that he listened to his heart to stay at Belgium with Genk.
“Many people whose opinion I respect told me that I should leave this summer. Even my mother asked me to opt for a transfer” he revealed.
“My godmother told me Southampton is a good club, you will do well there. But my heart said no,” the Black Stars winger further stated.
Joseph Paintsil missed Ghana’s two games in the September international break due to an injury.
Paintsil is however expected to be back for the October international break where the Black Stars of Ghana will take on Mexico and USA.
